Our extremely popular coaching programme can trace its roots back to the founding of our club in 1897. For over a decade, it has been led by our professional head coach Paul Kozak.

Junior and mini tennis coaching programmes both run throughout the year, subject to weather conditions, including during the summer holidays. They are tailored for a wide range of ages and abilities.

Junior Programme

Junior members (age 8-18 years) join a very active coaching programme. The junior programme is developed around a series of weekly themes which target the key aspects of the game, specifically adapted for a wide range of ages and abilities, from red to yellow ball. Junior members can join two out of the four weekly sessions that are on offer. This is at no additional charge to the annual membership fee.

Timings

  • Monday, Wednesday and Friday: either 4.00pm-5.00pm or 5.00pm-6.00pm, depending on ability.
  • Saturday: 10.30am-12.00 & 12.00-13.30pm, depending on ability (yellow ball players only).

Mini Tennis Programme

Mini tennis members (age 4-8 years) can access weekly coaching sessions that run on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays throughout the year. Mini members can join two of the three weekly sessions that are on offer.

Our mini sessions are designed to instil healthy habits in a fun and disciplined environment, for a sport that can be enjoyed for a lifetime. The goal is to introduce physical activity in a healthy atmosphere with comradery and friendship. Mini tennis is aimed at children starting out on red ball.

Our minis will learn the basics of tennis, ball skills, discipline, hand-eye co-ordination, focus and sportsmanship, all while building their self-confidence.

Timings

Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 4.00pm-5.00pm.

Coaching Team

We have an enthusiastic team of young coaches who are always looking to develop their skills. This can be seen on court as well as off the court. Many of them are qualified and we have LTA level 1, 2 and 3 coaches helping to run the programme throughout the year.

Junior Pathway

The club runs a Junior Pathway for junior players and young coaches, to encourage and enable them to join in with the organised senior club sessions.

Junior Teams

Junior players will have opportunities to play competitive tennis against other clubs.

Fun Junior Events

Join our popular junior tennis events, including a summer tournament and BBQ.

LTA Tournaments

We are very keen to encourage more of our juniors to compete in local LTA run tournaments, usually one day events and there are many age grades from 8U- 18U (meaning 18 years & under for example).

Anyone interested in competing must first become an LTA Advantage Member and then search local events using the filters.

It’s very straightforward to sign up to the LTA and it’s free to do so. The tournaments then cost around £16- £20 on entering which is re-fundable if the event is cancelled for bad weather or any other reason. When you start playing matches you will see your ranking change on the ‘My Game’ tab of the webpage once you are logged in. The WTN (World Tennis Number) starts at 40 and reduces as you play matches and get more wins!

Here’s a link with WTN info – https://www.lta.org.uk/compete/wtn-rankings/world-tennis-number/ and you can become an Advantage Member by hitting the ‘Join Us’ purple link top right and selecting ‘Junior Advantage Play +’ from the options and it’s easy from there. Just remember to link your membership with Pit Farm as your venue.

The tournaments are graded from 1 to 8. 1 being national level and 8 being beginners and you can enter by self-admission.

Paul Kozak will certainly be able to advise about grades etc but in general grades 5, 6 & 7 would initially suit our players.
